Gas and Heat S.p.A. was recently awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) for an innovative ammonia-based ship power system developed to support the decarbonization of the maritime sector.
The project, which fits fully into the company's energy transition strategy, was led by our R&D team. In particular, Sara Evangelisti, R&D Director of Gas and Heat, recounts in the official video the technical and regulatory path taken to ensure the compliance and success of the system, from the design stages to conceptual validation by the certification body.
Ammonia remains one of the most promising solutions as an alternative fuel for the marine environment due to its zero carbon emission characteristics during combustion. Our work has focused on the safe and efficient integration of this technology on board ship, in full alignment with the latest international safety and sustainability regulations.
In parallel, our R&D department is actively engaged in the development of new technological solutions for the transport of liquid CO₂ and hydrogen, consolidating Gas and Heat's position as a benchmark in innovation for the cryogenic and alternative gas industry.
This project is another important step in our ongoing efforts to support the energy evolution of the maritime industry by developing technologies that meet the environmental and industrial challenges of the future.
